In case the rest of the field wasn’t aware, the Palisades High boys and girls cross country teams showed they’ll be tough to beat at City finals after both dominated the Western League Finals meet Monday afternoon at Pierce College.
Senior Brent Smith paced the varsity boys, clocking 16:23.78 for first place on the hilly 2.9-mile course as the Dolphins took five of the top six positions.
Mason Cadden (16:24.34) was second, Alexc Stewart was third in 16:35.48, Luca Tagliati was fourth in 16:43.98 and Alec Schmitt was sixth in 16:57.36.
The Dolphins finished with 16 points, followed by Venice (47), University (71), LACES (123) and Hamilton (132).
In the varsity girls race, junior Sarah Bentley clocked 18:40.00 to edge sophomore teammate and reigning section champion Miranda Schriver (18:41.25). Jessica Bierschenk (20:29.25) was fourth, Skylar Smith (20:56.43) was fifth, Holland Mueller (21:15.20) was sixth, Brittany Darrow (21:50.02) was eighth and Elisa Kim (21:55.75) was ninth as Palisades finished with 18 points, followed by Venice (46), University (94) and Hamilton (95),
