The Santa Monica Canyon Civic Association held its monthly meeting on Feb. 13, continuing the fight for community improvements and against local issues.
Board members Nancy Fray and Julie Silliman reported that $60,000 raised from the Rustic Night’s annual fundraisers will most likely be used for the outdoor basketball courts.
Mark Landay reported that Canyon Charter Elementary School did not qualify for a second cross guard, even after the successful installation of the Entrada sidewalk.
On behalf of Pacific Palisades Community Council, Cathy Russell informed the board of a scheduled asphalt repair by the Bureau of Street Services taking place on March 2, a community safety town hall and the advancement of the off-leash dog park.
SMCCA also discussed a new issue that they will be taking on: After complaints of graffiti and noise expected to be a result of new ownership at the Golden Bull and SHOREbar on Channel Road, board members will work to invite the owners to a meeting to find an amiable solution.
At the end of the meeting, the board voted unanimously to induct architect Bob Dolbinski as an interim board member until the summer when he plans to run for reelection.
Dolbinski and his partner first dealt with SMMCA while presenting proposed construction plans to his home. His experience with the board is what led him to want to be a part of it.
“I just felt that given the experience that we had with the board and the experience with other neighbors and so on,” Dolbinski said in an interview with the Palisadian-Post. “I just felt that I could use that experience to help others or to give others the same opportunity to express or to present their project should that opportunity ever arise.”
SMCCA meets again on March 13.
Correction: The date of the next SMCCA meeting is on March 13, correcting a previous version of this article that had the wrong date.
