Heal the Bay’s Santa Monica Pier Aquarium will host a CD release party with children’s performer Birdie Mendoza on Sunday, September 22 at 1 p.m.
Mendoza will perform songs from her new CD, “Move Like an Animal,” in the Green Room of the marine education center located at 1600 Ocean Front Walk. An artist and songwriter, Mendoza’s tropical Latin beats and catchy refrains encourage kids to shake their tail feathers.
Admission is $10 per family (up to two adults and four children), and includes a free CD and admission to all Aquarium exhibits and activities.
Mendoza’s “Move Like an Animal” offers life lessons, such as the song “Chimpanzees,” which teaches that all creatures are equal. “I’m a Toucan” and “Running Far” explain how to overcome obstacles and pursue your passions. Her new ocean-themed songs include “Sea Turtles” and “Dolphins.”
Youngsters are invited to hear the music and then pet a spiky sea urchin, knobby sea star or sticky sea anemone and experience the salty spray of a swell shark during the 3:30 p.m. feeding at the shark exhibit.
