Sharon Minasian Skowron has taught private swim lessons in the backyard pool of her upper Bienveneda home for 45 years, passing on the tried and true methods started by her mom Diane, and the family tradition continued through the pandemic and now into 2023. She could get in only five before the cold weather hit last season but Skowron had the following to say of her new graduates:
Wyatt Miller: “He’s the 8-year-old son of local residents and business owners of Palisades Pitstop. After the 2021-22 swim season he has joined the Westside Aquatics swim team program at the Palisades High pool. He swam two miles for this trophy.
Indy Elliot Rabuchin: “He’s a third-generation Palisadian who swam for his first Long Distance Trophy this year at 5 years old! He did a one-third mile freestyle swim and is just getting started.
Gage Jennison: “This youngster is the third in his family to do the Long Distance Trophy Swim. He continues to smash skill and endurance goals to become one of my most inspirational swimmers and team leaders. At age 9, Gage swam half a mile.
Molly K: “She’s also the third member of her family to swim with me for a Long Distance Trophy, but she’s the youngest swimmer to earn a trophy! She swam one- eighth of a mile freestyle the month she turned 3 years old.”
Joaquin Gerscovich-Gu: “He swam one and one-eighth miles in 2022 at 5 years old. It’s important to him to be a strong swimmer because when not in the pool he’s tearing it up on his surfboard.”
