The American Institute of Architects Los Angeles named the ShoreBar, located in Santa Monica Canyon on West Channel Road, as the winner of both the Jury and People’s Choice Award in the lounge/nightclub category of the 9th Annual Restaurant Design Awards on June 22.
The popular seaside hangout was named one of two winners for the Jury Award (along with Chambers Eat + Drink located in San Francisco) and was the sole winner of the People’s Choice Award.
Designed and build by architect John Sofio in the former Hideout/Friendship bar space in Santa Monica Canyon, the Shore Bar ambience was inspired by Catalina Island and its nautical theme. Sofio also drew inspiration from other local seaside establishments such as the Jonathan Beach Club and Shutters Hotel, which gave ShoreBar its Nantucket décor and nostalgic-beach atmosphere.
Some of the most prominent interior features of the bar are its warm booths, which feature ivory-and-brass color arrangements along with vintage pictures of the coast and artwork on the wall. The outside ship-like facade, wooden accents and brass fixtures further add to the shore-like ambience.
