Shawn Helmig, 53, of Pacific Palisades passed away unexpectedly on November 9, 2022, from a pulmonary embolism.
Shawn was born on September 20, 1969, to Inge and Ralf Helmig in Glendale, California. After graduating from Palisades High School in 1987, he went on to study English literature at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he played tennis on a D1 scholarship.
After college, he joined the family business, Ralf Antiques in West Hollywood, to which he dedicated his professional life.
Shawn was known to be the life of every party and inspired those around him to have fun. He loved dining, travel, bowling, fishing, dancing and live music, and always supported Los Angeles athletics, including the Dodgers, Lakers and Rams.
In 2013, Shawn married Karyn Newbill in Cabo San Lucas, and the two remained together until the end of his life.
Shawn was predeceased by his father, Ralf Helmig. He is survived by his adoring mother, Inge, his loving wife, Karyn, and their Lab rescue puppy, Daisy.
A celebration of life will be held at The Point at the Bluffs on January 7 at 12 p.m., followed by a reception at the Pearl Dragon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Labrador Rescue of SoCal at indilabrescue.org, an organization about which Shawn felt strongly.
