Watercolorist Rea Nagel was in Pacific Palisades last week, to promote her latest art show, which will open at the Topanga Canyon Gallery, located at 120 North Topanga Canyon, on Sunday, March 11.
Nagel said that her love of the Santa Monica Mountains was rooted in her childhood in Illinois, where there are no mountains to paint.

“My fascination with mountains and the ocean grows daily since I moved to California many years ago. Since Southern California has a growing season that is 12 months long, the variety of flowers and plants I can paint is endless,” she told the San Fernando Arts Club.

“Most of my paintings are watercolor, but I also mix the use of acrylics, collage and pastels. Many of my paintings are a combination of all these mediums, whatever gets my vision across to the viewer. Blending colors and enjoying expressing my emotions on paper dominate my subjects. Anything I can see may inspire me and then I interpret them on paper.”
The veteran teacher’s works have been teamed up at the gallery with vivid photographs taken around the world by Patrick Ramsey.
