The family of a bicyclist struck and killed by a vehicle on Temescal Canyon Rd. in December will announce a scholarship recipient in his name.
The James Rapley Memorial Scholarship will be awarded Monday to a student at Melbourne University, the school James Rapley attended, his father told the Palisadian-Post in an email.
A memorial “Ghost Bike” still sits chained to a light pole on Temescal Canyon, marking the approximate location where the Rapley, 29, was hit on Dec. 22.
Rapley was riding a rental bike east on Temescal Canyon near Pacific Coast Highway at about 9:15 a.m. when 19-year-old Santa Monica resident Mohammed Kadri allegedly drifted into the bike lane and struck him from behind, the Post reported in January.
Kadri had various types of narcotics in his system at the time of the accident, but it is unknown if they were perscribed, police told the Post. The Los Angeles District Attorney’s office declined the case pending further investigation.
