
Palisades High’s Sarah Bentley tested herself against the best prep runners from California, Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Montana, Idaho, New Mexico, Wyoming and Utah in Saturday’s Foot Locker Cross Country West Regional at Mt. San Antonio College.
Bentley placed 55th in a field of 111 in the championship girls race with a 5K time of 18:27.1. The Dolphins’ senior took third place behind Granada Hills’ Sofia Abrego and El Camino Real’s Shana Mendelsohn in the Division I girls race at the City Section Finals. Abrego (17:08.4) took fifth Saturday in 17:08.4. Mia Barnett, a junior from Sun Valley Village Christian, won in 17:02.4.
Later, Pali High junior Lucas Schriver clocked 16:05.8 to place 126th out of 250 runners in the championship boys race. Schriver was second behind San Pedro’s Max Arroyo in the Division I boys race at City Finals in 15:38.23.
Mateo Althouse from Lincoln High in Portland won the race in 14:53.2, edging fellow Oregonian Charlie Robertson by one-tenth of a second on Mt. SAC’s alternate flat 5K “rain” course.
