The all-women’s Santa Monica Chorus, an award-winning chapter of Sweet Adelines International, placed second in a field of 13 choruses from California and Nevada last weekend.
In addition to singing in the chorus, members of the chapter also competed in the quartet competition, with distinctive results. In a field of 17 quartets, the five quartets representing the Santa Monica Chorus placed in the top 12.
The chorus is the oldest chapter west of the Rockies, and performs barbershop, a uniquely American folk art with its traditional close, four-part harmonies and ringing chords a cappella.
