Ruth Meta Kiehne Yarro was called home on her favorite holiday, Thanksgiving Day, to be with the love of her life, Ralph Sr, at age 94.
Ruth Yarro began her life on a freezing morning in March in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. Her family all lived on a farm with her mother Marta, her father Paul and sisters Elli, Paula and Gertrude. Because of the 40-below-zero weather, the family moved to a farm in Addison, Illinois, just outside Chicago, where two more sisters and a brother joined the family. Ruth met her husband Ralph Sr. in nearby Melrose Park, Illinois, where they were married. In 1953, Ruth and Ralph packed up the family and moved to Pacific Palisades, California, with their three daughters and one son. Ruth lived there for 45 years. Her husband, who was a devout member of Corpus Christi Church, Ralph passed in 1983. Ruth lived in the Palisades and was visited by her children and grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Ruth was very creative and loved the many family gatherings, where she loved to cook her Italian spaghetti for her family. Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great, great grandmother. She was a loving wife to Ralph Sr. and loving mother to her four children. Ruth was a person of selfless service, compassion, generosity, love and happiness. Thanksgiving Day was her favorite day, and a time of creating her famous German fruit strudel, pumpkin pies, turkey and all the stuffing that we all so loved. The love Mom always put into our lives was incredible. Mom is survived by Lorraine Bernardy of Newport Beach, California; Ralph Jr of Sun Valley, Idaho and Provo, Utah; Carol Goodwin and daughter Ann Goodwin of Sun Valley, Idaho; Shirley Yancey of Phoenix, Arizona; and all of the husbands and wives as well as 11 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 1 great, great, grandchild. Mom spent her last days with her daughter Carol in Sun Valley. Mom’s favorite vacations were her trips with her husband, Ralph Sr. and family to the island of Moroea, Tahiti, sun and warm water. They loved Tahiti and would return often. The celebration of Ruth’s life was held in Provo on Dec. 14, 2013 with Ruth’s daughters, son and immediate family. She was dearly loved. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Blaine County Senior Center Hailey, Idaho.
