Tenth-grader Max Fields took second place in a time of 15 minutes, 40 seconds to pace the Palisades High boys cross country squad to a runner-up finish in the Division 1 Varsity Yellow Race at the 73rd annual Mt. SAC Invitational Oct. 22-23 in Walnut.
Senior Jose Sevilla ran the three-mile course in 16:17, good enough for ninth place; Alec Schmitt was 11th in 16:24; David Tobin was 13th in 16:30; Joshua Kovacs was 39th in 17:32; Jeremy Santiago was 43rd in 17:40; and Hayden Morrison was 58th in 18:06 out of 107 runners. The Dolphins’ 70 points trailed only Northgate (57) in the team scoring.
Palisades’ girls took third in the Division 1 Varsity Red Division with 75 points, behind winner Huntington Beach 43) and second-place Mountain View (49). Junior Mollie Wittenberg (19:39), sophomore Kyra Morris (19:44) and junior Ava Baak (19:47) were ninth, 10th and 11th respectively. Layla Adeli (21:11) was 33rd; sister Leena Adeli was 36th in 21:17; freshman Giada Rice was 40th in 21:21; and senior Scarlett Klein (22:20) was 55th in a field of 84 runners.
