Rich Schmitt, Palisadian-Post staff photographer has a secret weapon when it comes to getting the perfect shot of the runners in the Palisades-Will Rogers 5/10K Run: a ladder.
Schmitt has been borrowing a ladder that belongs to Palisadians Doris and Dick Littlestone, who live on Alma Real Drive near the start of the race for 10 years.

“I can’t recall exactly why I borrowed the ladder [the first time], but I would think it was because I like high angles and I would be able to see as many runners as possible coming forward. Other than a cherry picker, it’s the next best thing,” Schmitt said.
The Littlestones have been generous lenders of the ladder for a decade, and the tradition is expected to continue for as long as Palisadians hit the concrete on the Fourth of July.
