Wagging tails and smiling volunteers set the scene on Valentine’s Day at LAX airport as 20 long-awaited Golden Retrievers arrived from Istanbul, Turkey. Thanks to a collaborative effort from the Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue and a Turkish rescue, the rescued dogs made the journey to find forever homes in the United States.

Palisadian Carole White has been volunteering with the organization for the past few months and described the arrival of the Goldens as emotional and a “thing of beauty.” Once cleared by customs, nine of the dogs were taken to a shelter in Denver, Colorado, while the remaining 11 received medical attention in West Los Angeles.
White explained the dogs would next be placed in foster homes to assess their needs when matching them with a forever family. The Highlands resident said this group of rescued dogs is just the beginning, considering there are so many homeless Golden Retrievers in Turkey.
It costs about $2,500 per dog to rescue them. For more information, go to Scgrrescue.org.
