Former Palisadian actor and veteran comedian Jerry Lewis will star in upcoming drama “Max Rose,” to be released on Sept. 2.

The film, made in 2013 but long ensnared in legal issues, features an aged pianist (Lewis) who learns that his recently deceased wife (British actress Claire Bloom) may have kept secrets, leading him to suspect his 65-year marriage was a sham.
Directed by Daniel Noah, critic Donald J. Levit described the movie as “A rare appreciation of age and ageing, of loss, and of lost and found love.”
Lewis most recently appeared in the crime film “The Trust” (2016), with Nicolas Cage as the lead role.
Lewis lived with his wife Patti Palmer and raised six children in a ranch-style home on Amalfi Drive in 1950.
This was the era when his slapstick style enjoyed its greatest success, as part of a double act with Dean Martin. The partnership ended in July 1956.
Lewis would go on to star in a series of comedy hits, including “The Bell Boy” and “The Nutty Professor.”
His career faded after the infamous fiasco of “The Day the Clown Died,” a drama set in a Nazi concentration camp, which has never been released.
Though his stay in Pacific Palisades ended in 1958,
Lewis was voted honorary mayor of Pacific Palisades in 1953. He continues to perform onstage at 90 years old.
