Raymond Neal Ogden, Sr., founder of Ogden Cleaners in Pacific Palisades, passed away peacefully on December 15. His wife of 57 years, Laura Lee, was at his side. He was 75. Born on December 27, 1932, in Ashtabula, Ohio, Ray moved with his family to Chula Vista in 1945. He was personnel manager at Rohr Aircraft in Auburn, Washington, before moving with his own family to Pacific Palisades in 1963. After going into business for himself, Ray founded Ogden Cleaners on Sunset Boulevard in 1969. He retired in 1991 and proceeded to enjoy avocado farming and investing. From 1979 to 1984, Ray and Laura divided their time between the Palisades and their avocado/horse/tennis ranch in Valley Center, located in northern San Diego County. They had several get-togethers at their ranch barn for square dance parties and invited many friends from the Palisades. Among Ray’s favorite interests were his family and friends, horses and horseback riding, dogs, cats, boating, fishing and tennis. His wonderful humor and influence touched the hearts of many people and will forever be part of the Ogden family. Ray had a blessed life and a life well lived, and Laura was the love of his life as he was hers. He passed peacefully with integrity and dignity. Ray was preceded in death by his father and mother, J.L. and Lois, and three brothers, Jack, Evan and James. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons: Ray Jr. (wife Val), Dennis (wife Mako), Gary and Jeffrey; two brothers, William and Richard; seven grandchildren, Daniel (wife Sarah), Matthew (wife Andi), Andrew, Brittany (husband Jake), Steven, Christopher and Kevin; and a great-granddaughter, Raelynn. A celebration of Ray’s life will be announced after the holidays.
