Rabbi Steven Carr Reuben, senior rabbi at Kehillat Israel, will read from and sign his recently published book, ‘Becoming Jewish: The Challenges, Rewards, and Paths to Conversion’ from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7 at Kehillat Israel, 16019 Sunset. The reading will be followed by a dessert and wine reception. With a foreword by actor and comedian Bob Saget, and co-authored with Jennifer Hanin, a convert, this resource for a journey to Judaism is a modern-day take on conversion, with tips, insight and stories from fellow converts. Matt Miller, host of NPR’s ‘Left, Right and Center,’ says, ‘In a world filled with spiritual seekers, ‘Becoming Jewish’ is an easygoing, accessible and warm-hearted guide that offers insider tips while giving converts a license to laugh along the way. The authors’ witty approach helps converts synthesize a religion shrouded in secrecy with expressions, gestures, practices, customs, rituals and a language that dates back over 4,000 years.’ Author Jonathan Kirsch is ‘convinced that the Jewish men and women who open and read the book will connect with traditions that they have forgotten or perhaps never knew at all. In that sense, the book offers a path into Judaism for both the Jew by birth and the Jew by choice.’ More information on the book can be found at becomingjewishbook.com. To RSVP, visit kehillatisrael.org. by December 2 or contact Eleanor Powers at (424) 214-7461. Childcare is provided with advance reservations.
