Pacific Palisades Community Council President Barbara Kohn announced on Thursday, Jan. 16, that Bill Bruns will be given PPCC’s Pride of the Palisades Award at the Citizen of Year Dinner to be held April 24th at the Riviera Country Club.
This award is being given to Bruns in appreciation of his service to Pacific Palisades as Editor-in-Chief of the Palisadian-Post from 1993-2013.
Bruns and his wife Pam moved into the Palisades in 1972 when he was working for Life Magazine. When the magazine folded Bruns decided to become a freelance writer working at home. This gave him the flexibility to help coach his kids’ soccer, baseball and softball teams, while his wife became an active leader in our local public schools.
In 1993, editor Juliet Schoen called Bruns and asked if he would be interested in succeeding her at the Post. At the age of 50 he agreed to take on the challenge. For 20 years and about 1,065 issues he kept readers informed about important news and controversies. He published articles about people doing good deeds or leading important fundraising campaigns.
As Editor-in-Chief Bruns displayed the highest standards of journalistic excellence. But he did more than help build a newspaper, he helped build a community. He is indeed the “Pride of the Palisades.” Contact: Janet Turner, PPCC President Emeritus, janetturner30aol.com, (310) 573-0382.
