Michael Nash, who grew up in the Palisades and is now a junior at Tulane University, joined seven bare-chested local friends at the start of the town’s Fourth of July parade, hoping to gain the attention of Katie Stam, the reigning Miss America, who was riding as the grand marshal. “We waved to her, and she laughed,” Nash says, “so we decided to go to where the parade ended and try and get a picture. She was still in her carriage, but we all started yelling for a picture, so she told us to line up, and quickly stopped to pose with us. She thought the whole thing was pretty funny.” Her suitors, left to right: Mason Hays, Alex Hubbs, Mike Light, Max Milder, Matt Berry, Michael Nash, Paris Hays and Scott Thomilson.
