Having regained the City Section championship last winter, the goal for the Palisades High girls water polo team this season is to defend it. The first step on that quest is winning league and the Dolphins assured themselves of that by defeating San Pedro last Thursday 11-7 despite missing two starters.
Captain Taylor Gair shoots for one of her game-high four goals last Thursday against San Pedro.
“We’re getting better and we have two tournaments before we start the [City] playoffs, so hopefully those will toughen us up even more,” Pali High assistant coach and Dolphins alum Luis Urias said. “The younger girls are getting valuable experience each game.”
Junior attacker Taylor Gair led the way against the visiting Pirates, scoring four goals and assisting on two others. Sophomore driver Kylie Lupesco had three goals, junior driver Genessis Zuniga tallied two and utilities Leah Khorsandi and Anika Bhowmick each scored once.
Sophomore goalie Triana Paris made five saves.
Palisades hosted University on Monday and heads to Chino Hills for the Ayala Tournament this weekend before closing the regular season at the Ventura Classic. The City playoff bracket will be released February 1.
