From the filmmakers behind the award-winning documentary “Spirit of the Marathon” comes the sequel: “Spirit of the Marathon II,” which will screen nationwide for one night only on Wednesday, June 12.
Produced by Palisadians Megan Williams and Gwedolen Twist, the film features the personal journeys of a new cast of seven athletes as they run a marathon on the streets of Rome in 2012.
The film also includes interviews with marathon greats such as Stefano Baldini, Paula Radcliffe and Frank Shorter, and the American runner Julie Weiss, who recently completed 52 marathons in 52 weeks to raise money and awareness for pancreatic cancer. Her first marathon was in Rome in 2012, and she has since raised more than $200,000.
Williams is an Academy Award-nominated producer (the short subject documentary “Language Says It All”) and Twist is an accomplished filmmaker and marathon runner who recently qualified to run the 2014 Boston Marathon.
Locally, the film will screen at 7 p.m. at the Monica AMC 7 on the Third Street Promenade and Century City 15.
