Civicas Women’s Civic Action Network, founded by Palisadian Cynthia Hirschhorn, will be hosting a forum with Los Angeles-based experts on disaster and recovery, “Let’s Get Ready LA!” on Tuesday, November 14, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at 3402 Pico Boulevard in Santa Monica.
The Civicas Board of Directors Hirschhorn, Laura Fox and Nicole Mutchnik will be hosting the event, which will be moderated by Joanne Nowlin, CEO of American Red Cross, Los Angeles Region. It will feature Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Kristin Crowley and General Manager of the Emergency Management Department for the City of Los Angeles Carol Parks.
“Hear from the foremost experts in Los Angeles how to increase community resilience to disaster … to share best practices to prepare and make plans for individuals, households, neighborhoods and our region,” according to an event announcement.
The location of the event is at the intersection of Pico and the 405 freeway, with complimentary parking on site.
Civicas is the feminine plural of Cīvicus, pertaining to citizens and city, according to its website.
Civicas is described as a community of women leaders, bringing together women across generations and backgrounds who all share a commitment to improve the quality of life in LA. It is a platform for civic education, curating content to provide information on civic issues.
“Our mission is to engage members in complex civic challenges and advance solutions through strategic connections,” the website read. “We are creating a community for you to learn about civic issues, connect with other leading women and impact the future of Los Angeles. We support the city of Los Angeles by offering the network’s resources, skills and connections in support of city initiatives.”
While much of Civicas’ content is local and focused in LA, the organization also features national, global stories and organizations to “inspire local action,” according to its website.
Interested community members are encouraged to RSVP to the November 14 forum to civicas4la@gmail.com.
