Composer Philip Springer—who has been a resident of Pacific Palisades for more than 50 years—has been nominated for a Webby Award and a Webby People’s Voice Award for Best Individual Performance for his performance of “Moonlight Sonata.”
The video went viral across the globe, his daughter Tamar Springer shared, garnering more than 25 million views on many different social media platforms.
“Hailed as the ‘Internet’s highest honor’ by The New York Times, The Webby Awards is the leading international awards organization honoring excellence on the internet … ” according to a statement. “Established in 1996, The Webby Awards received nearly 14,000 entries from all 50 states and over 70 countries worldwide this year. The Webby Awards are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences.”
The Webby Awards present two honors in each category: The Webby Award and The Webby People’s Voice Award.
“Members of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences select the nominees for both awards in each category, as well as the winners of The Webby Awards,” according to The Webby Award site. “In the spirit of the open web, The Webby People’s Voice is awarded by the voting public. Each year, The Webby People’s Voice Awards garners millions of votes from all over the world.”
Community members are able to vote for Springer’s performance through Thursday, April 20.
“My dad is turning 97 on May 12 and the award would be an amazing birthday gift,” Tamar shared.
Other nominations in the category include “Uprooted,” “AirPods – Silhouettes x Harry Styles,” “Famous Wedding Show (Full) 2022 – Quick Style” and “Gretta Ray – One Day Like This (Amazon Original) (Live Version).”
With a career spanning more than seven decades, Springer has been credited for over 500 works, including “Santa Baby.”
The Webby Awards will take place on Monday, May 15.
