Sofia Guarachi is her name, horseback riding is her game and the 16-year-old Palisadian just experienced the thrill of a lifetime.
Atop her 7-year-old Irish sport horse Fernhill Shannondale, the local three-day eventer posted a score of 28.2 to finish third at the prestigious American Eventing Championships held Sept. 25-28 at Texas Rose Horse Park in Tyler, Texas. Eventing is the triathlon of equestrian competitions. Riders accumulate points in three disciplines over a span of three days: dressage, cross country and stadium.

Guarachi, who trains with Jennifer Johnson at Bell Canyon Equestrian Center, a Class-A equestrian facility in Ventura County that offers training in English-hunters, equitation, show jumping and western-style riding.
A junior at New Roads School in Santa Monica, Guarachi has lived in the Palisades for nine years. The AEC is the annual national championship for every level of eventing, from Beginner Novice to Advanced and showcases the best of the best across the United States.
