Two key Republican leaders—Adam Abrahms, the California Republican Party regional vice-chair for L.A., and Paul Fredrix, chairman of the 50th Republican Assembly District—were featured speakers at the Pacific Palisades Republican Club’s (PPRC) Summer Splash on July 20.
During the meeting, local Republicans strategized methods on how to “claw [their] way back” to government leadership positions, according to a statement from the PPRC.
In Pacific Palisades, 51 percent of registered voters are Democrats and 28 percent are Republicans, with 16 percent declined to state and three percent in other parties.
Tactics discussed at the meeting included “better campaign/voter infrastructure, tying in with local neighborhoods, changing the way we interact with people so that we listen more to their concerns, then address those concerns specifically,” and other grassroots strategies.
One highlighted example was the PPRC’s weekly table at the farmers’ market on Swarthmore, “which lets people interact with PPRC members and helps our friends and neighbors see that Republicans are not the hateful people the media and the Democrats say we are,” read the PPRC statement.
“Our presence at the market is a critical piece of revamping the GOP ‘brand,’ and it’s one of the key ways we increase our membership,” said the PPRC. “We are about to roll out a new initiative at the farmers’ market—taking up food collections for Meals on Wheels. We’ll make it easy for people to contribute to this worthy cause, and of course we, ourselves, will donate as well.”
During the meeting, Fredrix described a new “GOP initiative where [the PPRC can] develop precinct-level networks within our communities.” The goal of the PPRC effort will also be to develop “a much stronger and more active voter base, and hopefully nurture new candidates with strong ties to their community.”
“Working at the precinct level is long overdue, but we are embarking on this as we look towards 2014 and 2016,” read the statement. “We will be providing more details on this as they develop; PPRC board member Jim Carcich is our liaison to the [Republican] Assembly District and will be the lead in developing this network in the Palisades and those areas under our club purview.”
