With rousing music by numerous outstanding marching bands, including the 150-member Phantom Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps from Rockford, Illinois (above, right), Monday’s Fourth of July parade entertained thousands of spectators. Lieutenant General Thomas Waldhauser of Camp Pendleton served as the reviewing officer and was joined by the First Marine Division Band. Buerge Motors and the Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital were the presenting sponsors. Parade announcer Kimi Petrick (who worked at Swarthmore with Bob Benton) and the parade’s official clown, a.k.a. Palisadian Bill Prachar (above, left).
