The Carl Lewis Track at Palisades High’s Stadium by the Sea was the venue for last Wednesday’s tri-meet featuring the Dolphins, Santa Monica and Wildwood and several athletes set personal and seasonal bests in their events.
In the boys 100-meter dash Pali High’ Mikeal King-Haagen took third in 11.69 seconds, Ricky Holland was fourth in 11.80 and Savyour Riley clocked a PR 11.88 to win his heat trailed by fellow football players Moses Ross (12.06), Marcus Brown (12.14) and Chris Washington (12.27). King-Haagen (23.15) took second place in the 200 behind Samo’s Gus Reyman (22.42) and Holland was fourth overall in 23.66.
Freshman Ronin Sherertz ran a PR 54.06 to clip Samo sophomore Lucas Milk (55.25) in the 400 and Cayden Capps (55.85) and Zach Amster (56.41) were fourth and fifth in season bests. Noah Wexler PR’d to take second in the 800 in 2:01.20 behind Samo senior Joe Hoover (1:59.52), David Tobin was third in a PR 2:03.09, Bodhi Sahakian (also the top high school longboard surfer in LA County) was fifth in a PR 2:03.34), 2021 City cross country champion Max Fields was sixth in a PR 2:04.53, and Daylen Dacay (2:06.26) also PR’d on his way to seventh place.
Jose Sevilla outkicked Samo’s Max Friedman to win the 1600 in a PR 4:31.26 and Fields (4:35.94) was fourth. Javier Tiscareno won the 110 hurdles in 17.28 seconds while Henry Cary-Williams won the 300 hurdles in 45.53 (both personal bests). Samo won both the 4×100 and 4×400 relays, Dolphins Zaire Peters (43-0) and Eric Daniels (40-1.50) were 1-2 in the shot put; and Ross (20-3), Brown (19-5) and Corey Flowers (18-9.50) were the top three long jumpers.
For the girls, Mikayla Murphy (13.34) was second to Wildwood’s Nnenna Brown (13.19) in the 100; Elysha Chae (27.01) won the 200; Skyla Jones (1:06.65) and Sophia Santillan (1:07.34) were second and third in the 400 meters behind Vikings sophomore MatildeMartinez (1:06.25); and in the 800 Ava Baak (2:27.50) and Kyra Morris (2:30.47) both PR’d for third and fourth as Samo ninth-grader Cleo Topp won in 2:23.46. Samo had the top five placers in the 1600 but Palisades swept the top six slots in the 100 hurdles, led by Naomi-Alyssa Pippins (a PR in 17.27) and freshman Kate Swain (18.91, also a PR); Kelyse Burgess (51.20) and Pippins (51.91) and Ava Bonder were 1-2-3 in the 300 hurdles.
Burgess, Chae, Shyla Pierre and Murphy were first in the 4×100 in 51.13; and Santillan, Avery Searle, Chae and Giah Holman were first in the 4×400 in 4:21.98.
