Solar Eclipse Viewings | Pacific Palisades
Community members are invited to view the upcoming solar eclipse on Saturday, October 14.
UCLA astronomers will be at the Palisades Recreation Center from 8 to 11 a.m. helping guests view the eclipse safely, and eclipse glasses will be provided while supplies last. There will also be a projection telescope to observe sunspots.
The Palisades Branch Library invites Palisadians to meet in the parking lot at 9 a.m. for the Annular Solar Eclipse. Free eclipse glasses will be given while supplies last.
“The maximum eclipse will occur at about 9:24 a.m. here in Los Angeles,” according to the event announcement. “Unfortunately, Los Angeles will only be able to see about 78% of the eclipse, but it is still amazing to behold, and we will show the NASA feed from the areas where it is at 100%.
“An annular solar eclipse happens when the Moon is lined up with the Earth and the Sun, but because of the Moon’s position, it does not entirely cover the Sun. This creates a ‘ring of fire’ effect in the sky.”
Both events are free and open to the public.
