This rare perspective of the Palisades High campus, located below Sunset Boulevard and between El Medio Avenue (left) and Temescal Canyon Road (right), was taken by Mark Holtzman of West Coast Aerial Photography in Sherman Oaks. He can be reached at (818) 788-5056 or by e-mail at mark@photopilot.com. To see some of his favorite pictures, visit his blog at www.photopilot.com/blog. Palisades High boasts one of the strongest athletic programs in the Los Angeles Unified School District, aided by sports facilities that include the baseball field (at the northern end of the campus), the $4.9-million Maggie Gilbert Aquatic Center (completed last October), and the colorful all-weather running track and football field that also accommodates soccer, lacrosse and girls softball. Opened in 1961, well before Temescal Canyon Road was built down to Pacific Coast Highway, PaliHi launched its year-long 50th Anniversary celebration on July 4, and will feature monthly alumni and community events this coming school year.
