Last season was full of firsts for Palisades High’s girls golf program. The Dolphins won their first City team championship, Chloe Rahn became the first female in school history to capture the individual crown and Anna Song became the team’s first state qualifier.
Coach Dave Suarez hopes this year ends with a second City title and he believes his squad has the depth and consistency to accomplish that goal.
Joining Rahn (now a senior) and Song (a sophomore) in the lineup are 12th-graders Mandana Sahmedini and Sierra Sugarman, juniors Dylan Nuss, Maya Otero and Katie Kim and sophomore Hailey Sugarman.
Song, who shot a 5-under 68 to for first place at League Finals last year and was one stroke behind Rahn at City Finals, carded a 2-over par 73 in the CIF state championships at Poppy Hills GC in Pebble Beach last November, finishing 18th in a field of 54 players.
Palisades opens the season September 13 against Harvard-Westlake at Rancho Park and takes on City runner-up Granada Hills in its first league match the following day at Balboa Golf Course.
“I think we can be as good or better than last year,” Suarez said. “The top three will be very solid and four and five can develop and keep our scores low. With hard work, we have the potential to be stronger in the end.”
