Palisades Funding Turkey Trot organizers announced Monday that due to COVID-19 and concerns that city services and permitting, along with Palisades High School sports facilities, will be unavailable, the race will not be held in 2020.
Community members had been exploring ways to deliver the eighth annual 5/10K in November, but mounting uncertainty rendered continuing the event inadvisable. Organizers hope the decision to postpone the race will bring much needed clarity to an uncertain picture and will help sponsors, runners and their families plan accordingly.
“The Palisades Funding Turkey Trot is committed to providing a fun, family event on Thanksgiving Day for Palisadians and neighbors from nearby westside towns,” event co-founder and race director Dawn Houston said. “Our goal has always been to kick off the holiday season with a healthy celebration that allows us to connect as a community. We appreciate the spirit, hard work and dedication our staff and volunteers put into the Turkey Trot each year. While we are disappointed circumstances prevent us from hosting the event this November, we look forward to getting everyone together in 2021 to continue our Thanksgiving Day tradition.”
