Palisadian resident and founder of Amalfi Estates Anthony Marguleas has brought back a town favorite: the Palisades flag.
Marguleas told the Palisadian-Post he had 100 flags to sell for $25 each, which covers the cost of having them printed.
The flag was originally available in 2014 when then-Honorary Mayor Jake Steinfeld created a contest to design a flag to represent the town, with a design by Sean Lim and Will Dintenfass—who met at Palisades Charter Elementary School—chosen out of more than 230 entries.
“It was really exciting to see how the community rallied around something simple and fun, but really kind of important,” Steinfeld said of the contest in 2014.
The first $1,000 earned from the sales of the flags went to Lim and Dintenfass’ designated charities: HelpHOPELive in honor of Larry Dubey, who suffered a spinal cord injury, and TreePeople, which plants trees in Los Angeles. Monies earned beyond that amount went to the Palisades-Malibu YMCA.
Since the first batch was available in 2014, Marguleas explained that extra copies had not been ordered. He worked with the Pacific Palisades Chamber of Commerce, as well as the people who had originally created the flag, to coordinate a donation of 100 Palisades flags to the Chamber in 2020. At the time, the Chamber sold the flags for $50 each, and was to receive 100% of the proceeds.
Recently, people in town expressed interest in purchasing a copy of the flag—and Marguleas wanted to help.
“Many people flew the Palisades flags, but then the flag became impossible to find,” Marguleas said to the Post. “The Palisades Chamber had some but ran out. I kept getting asked for them, so I decided to order 100 of them.”
He explained the flags are nylon and three feet by five feet in size.
“They are a fun reminder of our town and are great for college students,” Marguleas added, “or gifts you can give people to honor and celebrate our town.”
Marguleas recently donated a copy of the flag to Palisades Village Green as part of the park’s 50th anniversary celebration.
