All season long, the Palisades High baseball team has relied on quality pitching, aggressive baserunning and timely hitting to build sizeable leads and that formula worked again last Friday as the Dolphins hosted Garfield in the quarterfinals of the City Open Division playoffs.

Pitchers Ryan Higgins, John Iacono and Mason Edwards combined on a no-hitter; Amari Yolas, Luca Ruggerio and Nathan Sterling each stole a base and second-seeded Palisades (26-2) racked up 12 base hits to win 9-1 and extend its winning streak to 13 games.
“Coach told me Wednesday I’d be starting and I was definitely excited,” said Higgins, who allowed one unearned run, walked three batters and struck out eight in five innings. “I spent most of yesterday relaxing and preparing for today. We already played them so we knew their hitters.”
Palisades met Birmingham in the semifinals Wednesday at USC with the winner advancing to Saturday’s final at 1 p.m. at Dodger Stadium.
