The man dubbed “the beach cruiser bandit,” allegedly responsible for robbing the Pacific Western Bank on Sunset Boulevard (next to Bank of America) last Wednesday, was arrested the following day in Culver City.
Daniel Wayne Gaudio, 55, who was also wanted for his connection to bank robberies in Manhattan Beach and Santa Monica, stole $2,000 from the Palisades bank, and escaped on his bike, said police officials.
According to the Patriot-News in Pennsylvania, Gaudio escaped from a halfway house in Harrisburg on March 9. Authorities are not sure how he ended up in California. The newspaper reported that Gaudio had been sentenced in 2008 to a nine-year prison term for robbing two banks in 2005.
His prosecution was delayed 13 months by mental health treatment, the Patriot-News reported. Gaudio also allegedly used a bicycle to and from a prior bank robbery.
