
Six Palisades High boys tennis players earned first-team All-City honors after finishing in third or fourth place at the City Individual Tournament last Thursday, with PaliHi teammates squaring off in third-place matches in both the singles and doubles fields.
Freshman Ben Goldberg defeated junior captain Daniel Rozovsky to take third in singles, 6-3, 6-2, after Goldberg fell to LACES’ Zac Brodney, 7-5, 6-2, in the semifinals, while Rozovsky lost to El Camino Real’s Jaime Barajas, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.
In doubles, freshman Kevin Liu and sophomore Bailey Joseph beat freshman Alex Liu and sophomore Barron Chavez in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, to finish third. Liu and Joseph were defeated in the semifinals by Granada Hills’ Loryn Voskoboynik and Brian Bonilla, 6-2, 6-4, while Liu and Chavez fell to El Camino’s Ezra Soriano and Dominik Barillas, 6-2, 6-2.

Sophomore Marissa Williams posted two more impressive times at State finals in Fresno, finishing ninth overall in the 1,600-meter run at 4:56.18 and eighth in the 3,200-meter run at 10:30.49. Williams won City titles a week earlier in both, breaking City records with times of 4:56.60 and 10:37.33.
Senior Kendall Gustafson, who will attend Duke University this fall, set a personal-best in the long jump by finishing seventh overall with 18’10.5”. She also competed in the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles at State prelims, finishing 19th in at 14.75 and 44.77, respectively.
On the boys side, seniors Jonathon Tewodros and Drake Johnston finished 21st and 26th overall, respectively, with times of 9:21.72 and 10:10.46 in the 3,200-meter run.
