Off to its best start in six years, the Palisades High girls water polo team hosts the first Dolphin Invitational this weekend at Maggie Gilbert Aquatic Center.
The Dolphins (8-0) open their tournament Friday at 3:45 p.m. against Marymount, which Palisades beat 8-3 in the semifinals of the Burbank Tournament on Dec. 1. Palisades plays Thousand Oaks at 6:10 Friday and Malibu at 1:45 p.m. Saturday. The two teams with the best records in the round robin format meet for the championship Saturday at 3 p.m.
Palisades won 13 games in a row in 2012-13 before suffering its only loss to Eagle Rock in the City finals, but that year the Dolphins had several close calls along the way. So far this season the Dolphins have been unstoppable, outscoring the opposition 122-29. Their closest game was 9-7 versus Lake Elsinore Lakeside in the Burbank Tournament final. They have won their first three Western League games by an average of 19 goals.
Palisades resumes league play Jan. 7 at home against San Pedro.
