All streaks must come to an end sooner or later and that was the case Tuesday afternoon when the Palisades High girls volleyball team saw its streak of 130 consecutive Western League victories snapped in a four-set loss to archrival Venice. It was the Dolphins’ first league defeat since Venice won both head-to-head meetings in 2010.
The host Gondoliers prevailed, 27-29, 25-17, 25-14, 25-13, to avenge a four-set loss in the first round of league play. If Palisades wins its two remaining matches it will clinch a share of its 11th straight league title, but Venice would get the higher playoff seed based on point differential.
Palisades (31-6) won the first encounter, 25-13, 24-26, 25-23, 25-22.
