It was a whole new level for Palisades High’s boys and girls track teams at the CIF state preliminaries last Friday at Buchanan High in Clovis. A week before the boys won their first City title while the girls took second, but no Dolphins qualified for Saturday’s finals.
For the boys, City champion Nnamdi Onwaoze was 20th in the 110 hurdles in 15.08 seconds and 21st in the 300 hurdles in 40.12. Kenny Davis was 22nd in the long jump with a leap of 20-05.25 and 24th in the 300 hurdles (41.43), the Dolphins’ 4×100 relay clocked 3:22.65 for 21st overall and Devin Fry didn’t clear the opening height of 6-04 in the high jump.
For the girls, the 4×100 relay clocked 49.86 for 24th, City pole vault champion Erica Bagby was 22nd with a height of 11-06, Brittany Darrow was 23rd in the 800 meters in 2:23.64, Sarah Bentley took 25th overall in the 1600 in 5:06.78 and Miranda Schriver was 16th in the 3200 in 10:47.64, four spots behind City 800, 1600 and 3200 champion Sofia Abrego of Granada Hills (10:40.79).
