Even without No. 1 singles player Iris Berman, the Palisades High girls tennis team finished as Division 2B champions at the California Tennis Classic in Fresno last weekend.
Jade Finestone won four matches in straight sets at the No. 1 spot and Anaya Ayanbadejo won three matches at No. 2 singles and a third with Yulia Klokova at No. 1 doubles. Sophie Szeder won three singles matches and a doubles match with Marlena Dobrowolski.
On Friday, the City champion Dolphins blanked Clovis East 6-0, fell to Santa Margarita 4-2 and boucned back to beat San Joaquin Memorial 6-0. On Saturday, they shut out St. Joseph 6-0, then beat Clovis East 6-0 again in the finals.
On Monday, Palisades traveled to the South Bay to take on Palos Verdes and emerged victorious, 11-7, as Finestone swept 7-6 (4), 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and Ayanbadejo and Szeder each won two out of three.
“That’s the best I’ve seen those girls play,” Coach Bud Kling said.
