The last time the Palisades High softball team had taken on archrival Venice, the Dolphins carried a 4-1 lead into the sixth inning only to give up five runs in the last two frames to fall 6-5. The teams met again Monday and the Gondos held a 3-2 edge after four innings. The stage was set for the Dolphins to come back, but instead Venice exploded for 11 runs in the top of the fifth en route to a 14-2 victory.
Peyton Pollard had one hit, one run and one RBI, Alyssa Wallin scored one run and Leslie Andrade and Ella Edwards each added one hit for the host Dolphins, who were coming off back-to-back shutouts in which they outscored Westchester and LACES by a combined 39-0. Palisades dropped to 7-4 in the Western League, two games back of second-place Fairfax, with only one game left, yesterday at first-place Hamilton.
The Dolphins scored 10 runs in the first inning en route to their 22-0 rout of LACES last Wednesday. Gabriella Weiner pitched a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts while Wallin had four hits and six RBIs.
