
Showing the talent and depth that will make it so tough to contend with this season, the Palisades High girls varsity tennis team defeated host Beverly Hills 16-2 in its season opener Tuesday.
Freshman Caroline Goldberg swept 6-4, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Abby Schleichkorn won her two sets 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Morgan Swan won two out of three sets at the No. 3 singles spot, losing 6-3 to the Normans’ top player.
Caroline Vincent and Calypso Peraticos won their sets 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, reigning City Individual doubles champions Madeline Prins and Lizzie Belokonnyi swept 6-1, 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 2 position and freshman twins Sophia and Ireland Amato swept 6-1, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 doubles.
Caroline Ross and Madeline Goore were substituted in for Vincent and Peraticos in the third rotation and won their doubles set.
Pali High Coach Bud Kling described the victory as “a good start” for the City Section champions.
The Dolphins will travel to Rancho Park for an intersectional match against Marymount on Thursday.
