Last season it took until the last league match of the season for Palisades High’s girls golf team to record its first victory.
The Dolphins didn’t make Coach James Paleno wait nearly that long this fall, taking first place in convincing fashion in last Friday’s league opener at Penmar.
Counting its five lowest scorecards, Palisades shot 251 over nine holes to finish 71 strokes ahead of runner-up University. LACES was third at 324 and Venice was fourth (349).
Melanie Matayoshi led the Dolphins with a 45, fellow sophomore Abby Brown shot a 46, senior Camila Paleno shot a 51, freshman Mariana Paleno shot a 53 and senior Sophia Eberlein shot a 56.
Kara Temena from University carded a 40 to earn medalist honors.
The second league match is Friday at 2 p.m. back at Penmar.
