Pacific Palisades Democratic Club will host former County Supervisor and City Councilmember Zev Yaroslavsky as he presents his memoir on Sunday, October 22, at a home in Pacific Palisades.
“Zev’s Los Angeles: From Boyle Heights to the Halls of Power. A Political Memoir” covers his life and “the journey of a young social activist who battled to free Soviet Jews before becoming one of the most consequential elected officials in Southern California,” according to a description of the memoir.
“Fiercely independent, he combined an activist’s passion with a seasoned politician’s skill to challenge the region’s power brokers,” the description read. “He fought the Los Angeles Police Department’s excessive force and political spying policies … helped develop LA’s modern transit system, won a bruising battle with real estate interests to save the Santa Monica Mountains from rapacious development, and was pivotal in the development of Walt Disney Concert Hall and the modernization of the iconic Hollywood Bowl.”
LA Mayor Karen Bass described the work as “a compelling history of our city’s last half century, as conveyed through the life of one of our most impactful leaders.”
Yaroslavsky’s book signing will take place in a home in the Alphabets Streets—with the address provided upon RSVPing—on Sunday, October 22, at 2 p.m.
Non-members can purchase tickets to attend for $30, and PPDC members can purchase tickets for $25.
