
Squad Harmonix, a Los Angeles-based, all-kids a cappella performance group and training academy led by singer-songwriter Laura Saggers that includes two members who attend schools in Pacific Palisades, recently released a holiday EP as well as a video performance of “Run Run Rudolph,” including their Squad Juniors. The squad is currently nominated for three Contemporary A Cappella Society awards: Outstanding Collaborative Video, Best High School Video and Best R&B Video. Palisades Charter High School social science teacher Jeanne Saiza was recently nominated as the Santa Monica Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution’s 2021 Outstanding Teacher of American History award. “Ms. Saiza has dedicated her career to motivating and engaging students as they navigate the course of the United States through history,” DAR representatives shared in an email.

Regent Diane Jenkins and Chapter Historian Linda Martinek reviewed Saiza’s credentials and testimonials before presenting her with a certificate and monetary award at DAR’s last meeting. Saiza was then named the California State Society Daughters of the American Revolution winner and is now heading to the national competition.
The Palisades-Malibu and Mid Valley Family YMCAs teamed up to provide 40 Christmas trees to families of the first Project Homekey site that opened in Los Angeles, which falls in Council District 6, dedicated to housing individuals experiencing homelessness.

“Administered by the California Department of Housing and Community Development, $600 million in grant funding will be made available to local public entities, including cities, counties, or other local public entities, including housing authorities or federally recognized tribal governments within California, to purchase and rehabilitate housing, including hotels, motels, vacant apartment buildings, and other buildings, and convert them into interim or permanent, long-term housing,” according to information provided by the state.
