
The Pacific Palisades/Brentwood Chapter of the National League of Young Men, a nonprofit organization for students in grades nine through 12, participated in an all-chapter philanthropy event to support Portraits of Hope and Los Angeles County Animal Shelters. Participants were encouraged to paint in the style of Ed Massey, a Palisadian best known for his vibrant pieces.

The Calvary Christian School After School Program—made up of nearly 40 elementary students—have been working since October 2016 on their performance of “Shrek, Jr.” The actors, who range from second to fifth grade, include fifth-grader Gage Grimes (Shrek), fifth-grader Josephine Tilford (Fiona), fifth-grader Micah Polaha (Donkey) and fourth-grader Rex Crabtree (Farquaad).

Fourteen sixth- to eighth-graders at Calvary Christian School put on a performance of “Romeo and Juliet,” set to the music of Queen. Romeo was played by eighth-grader Rowan Goss and Juliet by eighth-grader Savannah Scott. The cast and crew worked for 11 weeks on the production.

Students at Le Lycee Francaise de LA school in West Los Angeles participated in the 19th annual BrainWorks Program, which is hosted by neurosurgeon Keith L. Black and the Cedars-Sinai Department of Neurosurgery for LA-area middle and high school students. The half-day event aims to inspire the next generation of neurosurgeons and scientists.

The Academic Decathlon team at Corpus Christi School participated in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Junior High Academic Decathlon. Out of over 100 schools that participated, the team placed 10th in the Super Quiz competition. Five students also won individual awards: Natalie Banks took third place in literature, Brendan Gardner took seventh place in English, Charlie Collins took ninth place in math, Katherine Csiszar took ninth place in religion and Sydney Brumbach took 10th place in science. The team was co-captained by Csiszar and Brumbach.
