Over the years, Schmitt has been invited to cover national stories and events, both as a staff photographer for the Palisadian-Post and as a freelancer. We asked Staff Photographer Rich Schmitt to delve into his archives of the past 10 years for some of his favorite images captured while on assignment.
At left: “The First Lady was speaking. I was escorted to the stage and given a minute or two to take pictures. A woman asked me to leave, but it was before I got good shots, so I didn’t leave. Another lady came and asked who I worked for. I didn’t want to say the Post. Eventually, I got a shot of Mrs. Obama smiling. Two ladies escorted me away.”
