Paseo Miramar residents reported a suspected gas leak Friday, Sept. 26 after smelling a foul odor outside.
Workers fixed the leak Monday, Sept. 29, according to Javier Mendoza, a senior communications manager at the Southern California Gas Company.
Paseo Miramar resident Loren Latker said he filed the report after he and a neighbor smelled gas outside.
Mendoza said SoCalGas crews went out on Sept. 26 to conduct a leak survey following the report. Crews located a “minor, nonhazardous leak in the 500 block of Paseo Miramar and dug a small 2-foot by 3-foot trench so crews could gain access to the line and isolate the area of the pipe for patching, according to Mendoza.
One lane of Paseo Miramar was kept open and the flow of traffic was not affected, he said.
Mendoza said the trench was boarded up over the weekend for safety and that crews returned on Monday, Sept. 29 to patch the gas leak, which alarmed some residents.
“At the moment, everything looks to be fine up here,” Latker told the Post after talking with the crews on his street. “The 500 leak is fixed in the street and crews are satisfied that the work was done and everything was okay.”
In addition to repairing the gas leak, Mendoza said crews also examined gas meters in the area and reported that they are all in good condition and working properly. Mendoza said SoCalGas routinely performs these sorts of pipeline safety tests.
