Hiker Rescue | Castellammare
A hiker rescue was reported at 2:33 p.m. on August 24 near 860 Paseo Miramar, according to Los Angeles Fire Department Spokesperson Nicholas Prange.
“LAFD responded to an injured hiker in a remote area of Pacific Palisades to find one adult female unable to hike out to her vehicle due to pain/injury,” Prange reported.
Air Operations hoisted the hiker and transported her to a local hospital by air.

Plane Pull | Pacific Palisades
Los Angeles Police Department West LA Officers, including Senior Lead Officer Brian Espin, are participating in a Plane Pull, which will help raise funds for the Southern California Special Olympics.
“We have always participated in the Torch Run for the Special Olympics athletes,” Espin shared in an email. “This go around we are pulling a plane for the Special Olympics and the athletes. Our team registration fee and goal is $1,500.”
The Plane Pull was described as “a fun team competition to see which team of 25 can pull a 124,000-pound jet 12 feet the fastest,” according to the event website. The last in-person Plane Pull, which took place in 2019, raised nearly $250,000 for Special Olympics athletes.

‘Got Game?’ | Palisades Recreation Center
Palisades Recreation Center, located at 851 Alma Real Drive, is hosting bridge, chess and mahjong in fall 2022 on Wednesdays between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
“Drop in and play bridge, chess or [mahjong] with friends or make new ones,” a flyer for the games read. “You choose if you’d like to play inside the center or outside in the beautiful Veterans Gardens.”

Optimist Club Meetings | Pacific Palisades
The Pacific Palisades Optimist Club welcomes community members to join its breakfast meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 7:30 a.m. at Pacific Palisades Presbyterian Church, located at the corner of Sunset Boulevard and El Medio.
“The Optimist Club invites everyone to attend and consider membership in the club,” according to a statement from the club. “The Optimist Club’s main focus is to raise funds for young people. They have provided scholarships and assisted young adults as to their transfer from foster care to independent living situations.”
Each meeting features a guest speaker who addresses local issues.
“The Optimist Club looks forward to greeting new and old members for their breakfast meeting,” the statement concluded.
