Castellammare | Vegetation Fire
Los Angeles Fire Department’s ground-based crew contained a smoldering fire that began in a 10’ by 10’ compost pile surrounded by green vegetation near the 340 block of North Bellino Drive, according to LAFD Spokesperson Brian Humphrey.
Firefighters dispatched at 10:40 a.m. on Saturday, March 6, and had the fire contained by 10:50 a.m., according to LAFD.
No structures were threatened or damaged, no evacuations were necessary, and the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, Humphrey reported.

Topanga State Park | Death Investigation at Santa Ynez Waterfall Trail
The Los Angeles Fire Department ground crew and two helicopters responded to calls the morning of March 8 from hikers to investigate a person north of the Palisades Highlands, on or near the Santa Ynez Waterfall Trail near Santa Ynez Falls, according to a report from LAFD Spokesperson Brian Humphrey.
LAFD personnel discovered one person deceased at the scene, according to an alert at 11:32 a.m.
No information was available regarding age, gender, attire or body condition, affiliation, or circumstances as the Palisadian-Post went to print Tuesday evening. LAFD personnel were expected to remain at the scene to assist law enforcement and the LA County Coroner.

Pacific Palisades | Optimism for a Prize
The Pacific Palisades Optimist Club is holding its annual essay contest, offering local teens a chance to “compete” as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.
All eighth- through 12th-grade students are eligible to enter for an opportunity to win the first-place prize of $150 and an accomplishment to put on their future resumes. Students can fill out an online application at optimist.org/Forms/20-21_Essay_Application.pdf), complete an essay on the topic “Reaching Your Dreams through Optimism,” and email them in PDF form to Contest Chair Dan Ackerman at ackermandaniel427@gmail.com.
Actual essays must not include the entrant’s name, school or address. They should be 700 to 800 words in length, double spaced and typed. The deadline is March 21.

Pacific Palisades | St. Patrick’s Day Event
The Pacific Palisades Chamber of Commerce is partnering with Palisades Village eatery Porta Via to host a Saint’s Patrick’s Day virtual event on Tuesday, March 16, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Free to attend, the event will take place via Zoom.
