Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 3, for Nancy Soltwedel, 84, who died on November 18 shortly after a stroke. ’Nancy was always very kind and a delight to talk to,’ said Arnie Wishnick, executive director of the Pacific Palisades Chamber of Commerce, and her friend for over 30 years. A Pacific Palisades resident for nearly 60 years, Nancy married Douglas Beamish, a former principal of Palisades Charter High School, in 1953. They built a house on Via de la Paz and had three children: Philip Beamish, now an electrical engineer living in Los Angeles; Richard Beamish, a communications advisor for Southern California Gas Company living in Santa Monica; and the late Sally Beamish Neff, a mother of three children (Peter, Laura and Charlotte). Later, Nancy married Ed Soltwedel, another longtime Palisades resident, who was an aerospace engineer and decorated war veteran. They lived together in Ed’s house on Chautauqua Boulevard from 1980 until his death in 2004. After graduating from Hollywood High in 1945 and UCLA in 1949, Nancy earned her teaching credential. She taught English as a Second Language for 17 years in elementary schools in the Culver City Unified School District. A tennis and bridge player, Nancy was active locally in the No Oil! campaign (which successful defended the Palisades from oil drilling along Will Rogers State Beach), the Pacific Palisades Property Owners Association (PPPOA), and the Republican Women’s Club. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on December 3 in the windmill chapel of the Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine (17190 Sunset Blvd.). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Spasmodic Torticollis Association in Elm Grove, Wisconsin.
